Bottom Notch wrote and recorded "The Focus: Mattielee" in the summer of 2012 after about two years of activity in the Bay Area underground hip-hop scene and the death of beloved friend and LiveWest ENT counterpart, Demetrius "Yung Ghost" Campbell. Their project resulted in some of the initial appearances of LiveWest ENT collective, Tha Word, both on tracks and in music videos.

Venturing outside the comfortable confines of their home city in Berkeley, CA and reaching out to Monterey producer and video-director, Mattielee, showed the growing maturity of Bottom Notch, not just as individuals and men but as a cohesive unit. The two hang their artistic hats on songs such as "Right Here" and "Sirens".
